Many shops will not install these kits due to non-electric bikes not being engineered to accommodate electric conversion. If you want a shop to install a conversion kit, check in advance with the shop before purchasing the kit. Many do not have a straightforward installation process and can be a challenging project for novice mechanics. Selecting most conversion kits requires knowing fitment details about your bike and might require specialized tools for installation. This puts extra stress on the bicycle frame and other components and can lead to breakage or failure of the bike. Non-electric bikes are not designed by manufacturers to accommodate the extra weight and forces incurred when adding an e-bike motor, battery, and control equipment. Plus, it can lead to rider injury or failure of the bike. While converting an old bike to electric assist might make sense in theory, it rarely makes practical sense. We do not currently recommend these kits for use.
